Halibut Licensing for Non-Canadian Fishermen

Non-Canadian residents can NOT fish for Halibut in Canadian waters (areas 121, 23, and 123) with a fishing license obtained online from the department of fisheries website. This includes Port Renfrew, Swiftsure Bank, Barkley Sound, and the Bamfield and Ucluelet offshore areas. You must obtain a paper license once you arrive in Canada.

UPDATE: The daily and total possession limit has been reduced to 2 Halibut from June 1 to December 31. This is significantly less than previous years so please take note!

Coho limits set for West Coast of Vancouver Island

On June 6, 2007 DFO Pacific released the summer Coho salmon retention limits for much of the West Coast of Vancouver Island. If you’re going to be fishing on the west side then I highly recommend giving this a close look. If you are boarded or checked by a DFO officer then you can expect some detailed questions on where the Coho in your cooler came from and whether they are wild or hatchery fish.
