We keep telling people that July is just as good as August…
We have no idea why, but people still seem to think that August is the best time to fish Bamfield and Ucluelet for big Chinook Salmon. That may have been true 10 years ago, but we’ve seen a real shift into July over the past 5 years. The fishing is still great in August, but it is equally good in July. The added benefit? Weather. July tends not to be as foggy as August. There is a reason why locals refer to it as “fogust”.
Don’t believe me? Check out the 35 lb Chinook that was entered on July 23rd in the Ukee Salmon Derby. Check out the Ukee Derby site for more information and to see a steady stream of big Chinooks that have been caught during the month of July.
